Jerusalem Go To Meeting Dress, 1929

In this photo from Walid Khalidi's Before Their Diaspora, appear "a delegation of Palestinian women outside the high commissioner's residence in Jerusalem," circa 1929. According to Khalidi, the women wearing hats are Christian. The rural Muslim women "wear no veils at all." The woman second from left is Mrs. Matiel Moghannam, "a Palestinian Protestant feminist leader and author of The Arab Woman and the Palestine Problem [London: H. Joseph, 1937]."
Arab Woman Progressive Voice juxtaposes contemporary Palestinian women's dress in a striking way. Check out the photos on her blog.
