The Gaza Battleground

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-0606240220jun24,0,71062.story?coll=chi-newsopinion-hed

My response to an editorial which appeared in the Chicago Tribune today, "The Gaza Battleground."

Dear Editor:

"They [Palestinians] elected Hamas and now live with the consequences of its rigid doctrine of hate," the Tribune editorializes (June 24).

For one week (June 15-21) according to the Palestine Center for Human Rights, Gaza Palestinians suffered eight dead, including three children and a pregnant woman; 45 civilians, including 24 children, were wounded by Israel's Occupation Forces gunfire; Israel's occupation forces made 50 incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank; 57 Palestinians, including 4 women and 2 children were arrested; 15 more were arrested at checkpoints; four houses were taken over by the military; three houses were demolished, and land was confiscated.

Palestinians' legal, personal, civil, and human rights which include the inalienable right to return home (Article 13, Section 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights) to their personal property precludes the recognition of Israel as the "Jewish" state. And for this they are maligned in the western press as "haters" and are brutalized by Israel.
